How to convert a stamp image to a digital stamp
- 1
Upload the photo or scan
Drop a PNG, JPG or WebP of up to 40 MB, paste one from the clipboard, or try the example. The tool finds the stamp ink by itself, even on tinted paper.
- 2
Pick the ink color
Choose blue, red, black, violet, green or any hex code and the whole mark is redrawn in it. Switch on Keep original colors when the stamp uses two inks.
- 3
Fine-tune the cleanup
Drag across the preview to compare it with the photo. Adjust Cleanup strength, smooth rough edges and clear stray specks until only the stamp is left.
- 4
Set the size and export
Add clear space, set the print width in mm or inches, then open the stamp in the editor, download it, copy it or save it to My Library.
Getting a clean digital stamp from a photo
Most people who need a digital stamp already own the physical one: a company seal, a received stamp or an inspection mark. Photographing an impression is the quickest way to get it onto a screen, but a raw photo brings paper texture, patchy ink and shadows with it. This tool reads the ink against the paper, rebuilds the mark in one clean color and trims it to size, all in your browser.
When this is the right tool
Use it when the result should look like a fresh, consistent stamp rather than a cut-out from a photo: a seal for invoices and letters, a mark to finish in the online stamp maker, or an impression that will be printed again at a known size. Faded corners and uneven pressure come out even, and the file is cropped tightly around the mark.
If you only need a transparent copy that looks exactly like the photo, with its original colors and the full image canvas, the free Remove stamp background tool is simpler. Come back here when you also need recoloring, cropping, a print size or editing.
The settings that make the difference
The tool looks for up to two ink colors. With one ink color chosen, everything it finds is redrawn in that color, which is what most rubber stamps need. Turn on Keep original colors only when the stamp really uses two inks, such as a red date inside a blue frame.
Cleanup strength decides how faint a mark can be before it counts as paper. Raise it for gray or yellowed paper and scanner tint; lower it as soon as thin lines or small lettering start to break up. With a colored ink, black printed text crossing the stamp is left out and the gaps it leaves are filled from the strokes around them.
Smooth stamp edges softens jagged outlines from small or compressed photos. Remove small specks, on by default, clears dust and ink spatter; switch it off if the design has tiny dots of its own.
Print size and file formats
The cleaned stamp is cropped to the ink, and Clear space adds a transparent margin of up to 20% of its longer side. The first result is set to 40 mm on its longer side, margin included; type another width in mm or inches and the height follows. PNG and JPG files store that size as their resolution, so documents and print dialogs place them correctly. WebP files do not.
Choose PNG for documents, slides and websites, since it keeps the transparency. JPG is saved on white, which helps with forms that refuse PNG. A low-resolution warning means the photo has too few pixels for the chosen size. To add wording or a border, open the stamp in the online stamp maker.
Limits and what to do instead
The tool cleans what is in the photo; it cannot invent missing detail. Blurry shots, dark or patterned paper and heavy shadows stay rough whatever the settings. Retake the picture in daylight with the phone flat above the page, or use a flatbed scan at 300 dpi or more. A tilted stamp stays tilted, so straighten the finished file with the free Rotate stamp image tool.
When the stamp is badly worn or lost, rebuilding it is often quicker than rescuing a photo: start from one of the stamp templates with a similar shape and retype the wording. Either way, only digitize stamps you are entitled to use; a digital copy of a seal carries the same responsibility as the rubber original.
Questions about uploading a stamp
How do I convert a stamp image to a digital stamp?
Upload a photo or scan, pick the ink color and adjust Cleanup strength until the paper disappears but the lettering stays whole. The tool crops the stamp to the ink, adds clear space and sizes it for print, ready to open in the editor or to download as a PNG, JPG or WebP file.
Can I use a photo of a stamp taken with my phone?
Yes. A phone photo works well when the stamp is sharp, evenly lit and fills most of the frame, so shoot straight down in daylight. Slight paper tint is fine because the tool measures the paper around the ink, but glare, blur and strong shadows lower the quality of the result.
Can I keep the original colors of my stamp?
Yes. Switch on Keep original colors and each detected ink keeps its color from the photo, which suits stamps printed in two inks. Leave it off to redraw the whole mark in one color. For the photo's exact look on the full canvas, without recoloring or cropping, the free stamp ink extractor fits better.
What size will my digital stamp print at?
The first result is set to 40 mm on its longer side, clear space included. Change the width in millimeters or inches before exporting and the height keeps the proportions. PNG and JPG downloads store the matching resolution, so they print at that size; a low-resolution warning means the photo is too small for it.
Why does the preview show a watermark?
Anyone can upload, clean and check a stamp for free; the preview stays watermarked until you subscribe. A subscription unlocks the clean full-resolution file for download, copying, the editor and My Library, across all premium stamp tools. The photo is processed in your browser and only leaves your device if you save it to My Library.
