Engineer & Architect Stamp Maker
Draft the seal artwork a licensed engineer or architect needs, with name, license number and discipline, alongside the office stamps every drawing set uses: PRELIMINARY – NOT FOR CONSTRUCTION, ISSUED FOR CONSTRUCTION, REVISED and drawn-by / checked-by blocks.

In an engineering or architecture office, stamps answer two questions about a drawing: who is professionally responsible for it, and what it may be used for. The first is the licensee's seal, applied with a signature and date when a sheet is issued. The second is a set of status marks: PRELIMINARY on review sets, ISSUED FOR CONSTRUCTION on released sheets, REVISED on prints with a new cloud, and the drawn and checked initials of internal review. Firms add a company stamp for transmittals and, in some Canadian provinces, a permit-to-practice stamp.
This engineer stamp maker loads a round professional engineer layout into the editor above, with rings for the title, the license number and your name. Enter the details exactly as your licensing board lists them, compare the round seal with the firm and status layouts in the templates below, and check that every character holds at the diameter your board specifies. The online stamp maker exports the artwork as a PNG proof or an SVG for the seal manufacturer.
Before you order anything, read your board's seal rules. Some boards prescribe the exact layout, and in some jurisdictions the association itself supplies the seal or names the supplier. A file made here is artwork for the licensee to approve; it gives no one the right to seal drawings.
Stamps in an engineering or architecture office
Only the first two are regulated professional marks; the rest are office stamps that keep drawing sets and reviews in order.
Professional engineer seal
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER · STATE OF OHIO · ALEX R. MORENO · E-000000
For the licensee only, on work done under their responsible charge, signed and dated as the board requires. Some boards also want the discipline, such as CIVIL or STRUCTURAL, on the seal.
Architect seal
LICENSED ARCHITECT · STATE OF WASHINGTON · JORDAN LEE · No. 0000
Regulated by the state architecture board in the same way, usually with the architect's name, license number and jurisdiction. The board's published design takes priority over any template.
Drawing status stamps
PRELIMINARY – NOT FOR CONSTRUCTION · ISSUED FOR PERMIT · ISSUED FOR BID · ISSUED FOR CONSTRUCTION
Tells contractors and plan reviewers what a sheet is for. Many firms stamp review prints PRELIMINARY so an unsealed set is never taken for a final one.
Revision stamp
REVISED · Rev. C · 10/23/2026 · See clouded areas
For paper prints and scanned markups that need a visible revision flag beside the cloud, matching the revision block on the sheet.
Drawn / checked block
DRAWN ______ · CHECKED ______ · APPROVED ______ · DATE ______
Records internal review on check prints and calculation packages, so the checker's initials are on paper before a sheet goes to the engineer for sealing.
Firm permit stamp
PERMIT TO PRACTICE · NORTHGATE ENGINEERING LTD. · Permit No. P00000 · Signature ______ · Date ______
Some Canadian provinces require a firm-level permit stamp beside the member's seal on authenticated documents. The association defines its content, so work from its specification.
Engineering and architecture templates
Choosing a template swaps the design in the editor above. The names, license numbers, states and firm names are invented; replace them with the details on your own license and firm records.

Circle stamp · 40 mm
Washington Professional Engineer Seal
Round seal with rings for the state, the licensee's name and the license number; drop the firm line if your board's design omits it.

Circle stamp · 38 mm
Professional Engineer Seal Stamp
Simpler round engineer layout with a large license number field that stays readable on reduced half-size prints.

Circle stamp · 38 mm
Saskson Engineering Membership Seal
Canadian-style member stamp with day, month and year boxes for the authentication date; follow your association's specification for wording and size.

Circle stamp · 38 mm
Round Rubber Stamp with Custom Text
Round firm stamp with a Reviewed By line, suited to logging incoming submittals and check prints rather than sealing work.

Circle stamp · 38 mm
Engineer Stamp with Builder Logo and Four Borders
Company stamp for a design and drafting firm, with the services in the outer ring, for transmittals, invoices and letters.

Rectangle stamp · 44x22 mm
Text Stamp with Text: Stamp
Single-word frame to retype as PRELIMINARY, NOT FOR CONSTRUCTION, SUPERSEDED or ISSUED FOR PERMIT.
How to prepare engineer and architect stamps
- 1
Check the board's seal rules
Download the seal and signature rules from your licensing board: required wording, size or diameter, whether the discipline appears, and how electronic seals must be applied.
- 2
Copy the license record
Type your name and license number exactly as the board's online lookup shows them, including middle initials. For a firm or permit stamp, use the legal firm name on the permit.
- 3
Set the diameter, then fit the rings
Enter the board's diameter first. Put the jurisdiction and title on the outer ring and the name and number in the center, and tighten letter spacing before you reduce letter height.
- 4
Proof against the board's example
Compare the preview with the board's sample seal, if one is published, and with your license record. Export a PNG for review and an SVG for the seal maker, and keep both with your license file.
Seal size, ink and digital use
Board rules override these general figures.
- Size
- Round seals are typically 1½ to 2 in (38–50 mm) across, and some boards set a minimum or exact diameter. Status stamps work well at about 2½ × ¾ in, drawn/checked blocks at 2½ × 1¼ in.
- Ink color
- Black or dark blue reproduces on prints and scans. Some boards require the seal to stay legible on every reproduction, which rules out pale colors and hairline borders.
- Smallest text
- Keep license numbers at least 2.5 mm tall. A half-size print shrinks everything by 50%, so a number that is barely readable on a 22 × 34 sheet disappears on an 11 × 17 set.
- Digital seals
- Many boards accept an electronic seal only with a digital signature that uses a certificate and makes later changes detectable. An image of the seal on its own is usually not enough, so read the rules before placing one on a PDF.
- Files
- Keep a high-resolution master for the manufacturer and for your CAD title block. The page on PNG and SVG stamp downloads explains which formats come with each plan.
Engineer and architect stamp questions
Can I order my PE stamp online?
In many US states you can, once licensed, from any vendor whose seal meets the board's specifications. Some boards publish an approved design or require exact wording, and in some Canadian provinces the association issues or controls the stamp itself. Check your board's rules first, then confirm the layout with the vendor using a proof.
What information goes on an engineer's seal?
Usually the licensee's name, the license number, the jurisdiction and the title Professional Engineer or its local equivalent. Some boards add the discipline, such as civil, mechanical or structural, and some forbid extras like firm names or logos. Your board's rule text is the only authoritative list.
Does the seal need a signature and date?
In most jurisdictions, yes. Boards generally require the licensee's signature and the date across or beside the seal, on each sealed sheet or on a cover sheet where their rules allow it. An unsigned seal impression is often treated as incomplete. Check whether your board wants every sheet sealed or accepts an index sheet that covers the set.
Can an architect and an engineer seal the same drawing set?
Yes. On multidiscipline projects each licensee seals the sheets prepared under their responsible charge: the architect on the architectural sheets, the structural engineer on the structural sheets, and so on. Title blocks often leave a separate seal space for each consultant, so size the seal for the smallest of those boxes.
What should I do with my old seal when my license details change?
Retire it. A seal showing a lapsed license, a former name or a state where you no longer practice should not appear on new documents. Order a replacement that matches your current license record, update the image tied to your digital signature setup, and note the date the old seal was withdrawn.
