A bakery’s stamps follow the bread out of the door. Paper bread bags carry a baked-on date, so customers know which loaf came out of the oven this morning. Cake and pastry boxes carry the bakery’s logo, and a round seal or sticker closes the lid for the walk home. Special orders get a slip stamped with the pickup day and deposit, and the cafés and hotels that buy wholesale sign a stamped delivery note at the back door.

This bakery stamp maker opens a plain date layout in the editor above, the quickest stamp to set up for bread bags. Change the sample to BAKED ON with your own date format, or switch to one of the round logo layouts below for cake boxes and seals. The same online stamp maker covers the rest of the counter: a solid ring with your address around a space for the order number, a one-word PRE-ORDER bar for slips, or a seal-style layout for wholesale paperwork.

One distinction matters before you begin. Everything on this page is for paper, card and packaging. Pressing a pattern into shortbread or a logo onto a loaf is a different craft that needs a food-grade stamp and, if you add colour, an edible ink. An ordinary rubber stamp with office ink is not suitable for food.

Stamps a bakery works with

Most are used dozens of times a day, so size each one carefully.

  • Baked-on date

    BAKED ON 23 OCT

For bread and pastry bags. A dater with adjustable bands lets the first shift set the date once, then stamp every bag of the morning bake.

  • Cake box logo

    ROSE & RYE BAKERY · Small-batch sourdough · Asheville

Goes on the lid of white or kraft boxes. Plain boxes plus a stamp let you buy boxes in several sizes without ordering printed stock for each.

  • Box seal

Made with care · Rose & Rye

Printed on round stickers or stamped on a paper band that crosses the lid, so it is clear the box has not been opened since it left the counter.

  • Special order slip

    ORDER No. ______ · Name ______ · Pick up ______ · Deposit ______

For birthday cakes, celebration orders and holiday pre-orders. Staff fill in the lines by hand and tape the slip to the box in the cold room.

  • Wholesale delivery note

    DELIVERED · Date ______ · Crates ______ · Received by ______

Stamped on the copy that stays with the café, shop or hotel. The crate count matters when trays and crates have to come back.

  • Day-old bag stamp

YESTERDAY’S BAKE · Perfect for toast

Marks reduced bags at the end of the day. It is honest with customers and faster than writing a label for each bag.

How to make a bakery stamp

  1. 1

    Separate daily and weekly stamps

The date stamp is used every morning, the box logo every week, and the order slip only when someone calls. Decide which ones you need, choose a date format such as 23 OCT, and find your sharpest logo file.

  2. 2

Fit the shape to the package

Measure the flat strip of a bread bag and the lid of your most common box. Open a long layout for dates and a round one for logos, and set the plate size before editing any text.

  3. 3

    Leave room for handwriting

On order slips and delivery notes, make the blank lines long enough for a name written in pen, at least 25 mm. Remove decoration before shortening a line someone has to fill in.

  4. 4

    Proof on a real bag

Print the proof at 100% and lay it on an actual bread bag, avoiding any clear window, which ink will not dry on. When it reads well, export the files and save the design for seasonal versions.

Size, ink and file details

Size
A date stamp of about 45 × 18 mm fits most bread bags, a cake box logo works at 40–60 mm and a closing seal at 30–38 mm. Order slip blocks need around 60 × 40 mm. For more dater frames, see the date stamp templates.
Ink colour
Black or dark brown reads well on white and kraft bags. Use a quick-drying ink on glassine and greaseproof bags, where standard ink sits on the surface and smudges.
Text size
Keep date digits at 3 mm or taller and avoid thin script on paper bags, which are soft and absorb ink unevenly. Reversed lettering in a solid ring needs extra weight to stay open.
Files
Use the PNG for the menu board, sticker printing and the bakery’s website. Stamp vendors and label printers usually want SVG or PDF. The PNG and SVG stamp downloads are compared on the pricing page.
Ink near food
Ordinary ink is fine on the outside of a bag or box. If a stamped area may touch unwrapped food, such as a paper band around a sandwich, ask your supplier for an ink declared suitable for food packaging.

Bakery stamp questions

Can I turn my bakery logo into a cookie stamp?

Yes, as artwork. Design and export the logo here, then give the vector file to a maker of food-grade cookie stamps. Keep shapes bold and lines at least 1 mm thick, because dough spreads in the oven and fills in fine detail. Text should be short and large, or left out entirely.

Should a bread bag say baked on or best before?

Baked on is information for customers and needs no special wording. Best before and use by are date marks with legal meaning for prepacked food, and the rules on when they are required differ by country and by how the bread is sold. If your bread counts as prepacked locally, check which date mark applies.

Can I stamp GLUTEN-FREE or VEGAN on bags?

Only when the product meets the rules where you sell it. In the EU and the US, for example, gluten-free has a legal limit on gluten content, and kitchens that also bake with wheat flour find it hard to guarantee. A word stamp helps staff sort orders, but on a bag it becomes a claim to the customer.

Should I seal boxes with a stamp or with stickers?

Stickers are quicker on a busy morning and look neat on glossy boxes. A stamped paper band is cheaper to stock and works on any box size. Many bakeries use the same seal artwork for both: a rubber stamp for everyday bands and a roll of printed stickers for holidays and wedding orders.

Can I make seasonal versions of the logo stamp?

Yes. Save the base design to your library, then reopen it and add a holiday motif or change the wording in the outer ring. Keep the bakery name and main shape unchanged so customers still recognise the box. Export the seasonal version separately and retire it when the season ends.
