How to put a stamp on a PDF

  1. 1

    Open the PDF

Drop a PDF of up to 50 MB onto the tool or try the example invoice. Pages appear as you scroll, so long documents open quickly.

  2. 2

    Add a stamp

Upload a stamp image or pick one from My Library. It lands seal-sized on the page in view; a photo of a stamp on paper is cleaned up automatically.

  3. 3

    Place it

Drag it into position, resize or rotate it, and set opacity, ink colour and wear. Copy it to every page in one click if the whole document needs it.

  4. 4

    Download the stamped PDF

Save a copy of your original file with the stamps written into it. The preview is free to try; the download needs a plan.

Stamping a PDF without flattening it

Many ways of stamping a PDF quietly turn every page into a picture, so the text can no longer be searched, copied or read aloud. This tool works the other way round: it shows the pages in your browser, lets you place the stamp exactly where it belongs and then adds it to the original file as an image above the existing content, leaving everything else untouched.

When this tool fits

Use it for the final copy of a document that already exists as a PDF: an invoice marked paid, a delivery note marked received, a quote or a customs form approved with the company seal, or a contract stamped next to the signature line. Each page keeps its own stamps, the counter above the pages shows where the next one will go, and Put this stamp on every page copies a mark across the whole file.

No stamp image yet? Design one in the online stamp maker, or adapt one of the stamp templates, save it to My Library and pick it here. For a scanned or photographed stamp, Remove stamp background gives the cleanest transparent file to start from.

Settings that make it look stamped

A new stamp starts at about 42 mm, the usual size of a company seal, measured on the page as it prints. Keep Blend with the page on: the PDF stores it as a multiply blend, so table lines and text show through the ink as they would on paper. Turn it off when the stamp should cover what lies beneath.

Lower the opacity a little, tilt the stamp a few degrees and try a Light or Worn ink texture to avoid the pasted-on look. Pick red, blue, violet or black ink, or match the colour of your rubber stamp with a custom shade.

What the downloaded file contains

The download is your own PDF with one addition per stamp: an image placed on its page, embedded at about 300 dots per inch for its printed size. Rotated pages, cropped pages and mixed page sizes are handled, so the stamp lands where you put it in any viewer. Text, bookmarks, links and form fields are kept, and the file name gains -stamped at the end.

To reuse the same stamp in Word, emails or other software, export it from the online stamp maker or set a precise pixel size with Resize stamp image.

Limits and what to do instead

A stamp image is not a digital signature. It shows approval to a reader, but it cannot prove who applied it or that the file was not changed afterwards; use a signing service when that matters. If the PDF already carries digital signatures, the tool warns you first, because any change makes them show as invalid.

Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened, and files locked against changes can be viewed but not saved with stamps. Remove the protection in the app that created the file, if you are allowed to, and try again. Only apply seals and approval stamps you are entitled to use.

Questions about stamping PDFs

How do I add a stamp to a PDF online?

Open the PDF in the tool above, choose Add stamp and upload a stamp image or pick one from My Library. Scroll to the page you want, drag the stamp into place and adjust its size, angle, opacity and ink. Then download the PDF: you get your original file with the stamp added to that page.

Will the text in my PDF stay selectable after stamping?

Yes. The tool does not turn pages into pictures. It opens your original PDF, adds each stamp as an image on its page and saves the file again, so the existing text can still be selected, searched and copied, and links and form fields keep working. Only the stamp itself is an image.

Is a stamp on a PDF the same as a digital signature?

No. A stamp is a visible image that shows a reader the document was received, paid or approved. A digital signature is a cryptographic seal that proves who signed and that nothing changed afterwards. Adding a stamp to a signed PDF invalidates its signatures, which is why the tool warns you before saving.

Can I put the same stamp on every page of a PDF?

Yes. Select the stamp and choose Put this stamp on every page. A copy is placed at the same spot and size on each page of the document, and every copy can still be moved, resized or removed on its own. Undo takes all the copies away again in a single step.

Why does the stamp show a watermark in the preview?

This is a premium stamp tool. You can open PDFs, place stamps and check every page for free, but the stamps on screen carry a watermark until you subscribe. A monthly, yearly or lifetime plan unlocks the clean, stamped PDF download. Your file is processed in the browser and is never uploaded.
