A warehouse stamps two very different surfaces. Corrugated cartons get handling marks such as FRAGILE, THIS SIDE UP or DO NOT STACK, plus pallet numbers that a forklift driver has to read from a few meters away. Paper gets the rest: the carrier's delivery note signed RECEIVED with a date, the packing slip initialed CHECKED by the packer, a returns form, a proof-of-delivery sheet. Small shops that send a few parcels a day use the same marks on a smaller scale, usually next to a return address stamp.

This shipping stamp maker loads a round logistics company stamp in the editor above, and the template list below swaps it for a received block, a one-word handling mark or an address stamp. Type your own dock name, picker initials or location code, set the size to the surface it will land on, and check the result at full scale. The online stamp maker then gives you a proof to pin up by the packing bench and a file for the vendor who makes the rubber.

Know where a stamp stops being enough. Hazard labels for dangerous goods, lithium battery marks and carrier barcodes are regulated or machine-read, so they must be the official printed labels, not a rubber impression. Stamps handle the instructions meant for people and the paperwork that travels with the goods.

Stamps for the dock, the bench and the shelf

Handling marks go on cartons; the others go on delivery notes, packing slips, returns forms and the shelving itself.

  • Handling marks

FRAGILE · HANDLE WITH CARE · THIS SIDE UP ↑↑

Stamped on two opposite sides of a carton so the mark shows however the box is stacked. Pair the words with the standard glass and arrow symbols for staff who do not read English.

  • Goods-in received stamp

    RECEIVED · 23 OCT 2026 · Dock 2 · Packages ____ · Signed ____ · OK ☐ DAMAGED ☐

Applied to the carrier's delivery note before the driver leaves. The condition boxes make the receiver decide on the spot instead of signing blind.

  • Return to sender

RETURN TO SENDER · Refused ☐ Not known here ☐ Moved ☐ · Date ____

For misdelivered or refused parcels at a mailroom or reception desk. Stamp it beside the original label, never over the barcode, so the carrier can still scan it.

  • Packing slip check

    CHECKED · Order 58213 · Picked by ____ · Packed by ____ · Cartons ____

Records who picked and who packed each order, which is the first thing you need when a customer reports a missing item.

  • Bin and location mark

    AISLE 07 · BAY 12 · LEVEL C · BIN 04

For shelf labels, bin cards and cycle-count sheets. A fixed format with leading zeros keeps location codes sortable and easy to read aloud.

  • Pallet label

    PALLET 3 OF 8 · PO 77-4102 · SHIP TO: DOCK 6 · DO NOT DOUBLE STACK

A quick manual label for mixed or cross-docked pallets, stamped on a placard sheet and fixed to two adjacent sides of the wrapped load.

  • Proof of delivery block

    DELIVERED · Name ____ · Signature ____ · Date ____ Time ____ · Packages ____

For your own drivers' delivery copies. A printed-name line separate from the signature makes the record useful when a delivery is disputed.

How to make a shipping stamp

  1. 1

    Walk the process first

List each station that handles paper or cartons: receiving, put-away, picking, packing, returns. Note what each person writes by hand today; those repeated words are your stamps.

  2. 2

    Size for the surface

Choose a large rectangle for carton marks and a small one for delivery notes. Set the plate size first, then edit, so a carton mark never ends up too small to see.

  3. 3

    Keep words few and heavy

Use one or two bold words for handling marks and short labeled blanks for paperwork. Leave enough room on each blank for a signature or a five-digit quantity.

  4. 4

Print a test on real stock

Print the proof at full size, tape it to an empty carton and a delivery note, and read it from where the forklift driver or receiver will stand. Then export the final files.

Size, ink and surface

Size
Carton marks work at 70 × 25 mm or more, paperwork stamps at 47 × 18 mm, and a received block with condition boxes needs about 55 × 35 mm. The received stamp templates show more goods-in layouts.
Ink color
Red is the convention for FRAGILE and other warnings; black or blue suits receiving and paperwork stamps. On brown corrugated board, choose a quick-drying ink made for porous surfaces so marks do not smear when cartons are stacked.
Readability
Handling words should read from a couple of meters in a dim aisle, so aim for capitals around 6 mm tall or more. Location codes need a font in which 1 and 7 cannot be confused.
Cardboard
Corrugated flutes break up fine detail. Use a bold sans-serif, thick borders and solid shapes, and skip thin outline lettering that disappears into the ridges.
Files
Keep a PNG proof for the shift supervisor and an SVG for the stamp vendor; vector edges stay crisp on large carton plates. The PNG and SVG stamp downloads are explained on the pricing page.

Shipping stamp questions

Does a FRAGILE stamp make carriers handle a parcel more carefully?

It helps the people who lift and stack the box, but most parcel networks sort automatically, and a mark does not change the carrier's liability. Packing is what protects the contents. If the goods are truly delicate, ask the carrier about its special handling service and pack to its guidelines.

What should a goods-in received stamp include?

At minimum the date, the receiver's name or signature and the number of packages. Many warehouses add the purchase order number and condition boxes, so damage is noted on the carrier's copy before the driver leaves. A note on the delivery paperwork is usually the first thing a damage claim depends on.

Can I stamp a hazmat or lithium battery label?

No. Those labels and marks are set by the dangerous-goods rules for each mode of transport, with fixed sizes, colors and wording. Buy compliant pre-printed labels or print them as the carrier instructs. A stamp can still carry an internal note on the paperwork, such as a DG CHECKED mark with initials.

Why use stamps when the warehouse runs on a WMS?

A warehouse management system tracks stock, but paper still arrives with every delivery: carrier notes, supplier packing lists, customs copies. Stamps mark those documents quickly and in a consistent format, and they keep working when a scanner battery dies or the network goes down.

How do I keep a stamp from covering a barcode?

Give each stamp a fixed position, such as the top right corner of the delivery note, and keep the plate small enough to fit there. On parcels, stamp a side panel rather than the label face. Scanners need a clear margin around the code, so leave a finger's width of blank space.
